Bulgarian Beaches Remain Accessible to All Access to Bulgarian beaches cannot be restricted because such restrictions are banned by the Constitution, Regional Minister, Rosen Plevneliev, says.
In a Wednesday interview for the TV channel bTV, Plevneliev explained that Bulgaria will not have private, luxury or VIP beaches since this would be illegal.
The Minister commented on the recent reports that property owners from the resort town of Lozenets have fenced part of the beach. He said the urban plan must be checked and the cases probed because the local town hall must secure access to the beach to all holidaymakers.
Plevneliev says Bulgaria has 209 beaches; about 100 underwent surprise spot checks this summer and violators will be sent to the prosecutor, adding most problems involve beaches without life guards or beaches on concession.
When asked why illegal construction in the coastal area known as Zlatna Perla (Golden Pearl) is not yet demolished, the Minister explained the owners are appealing with the Supreme Administrative Court.
