Bulgaria Parliament Declares Obama's Win Symbol of Change
|
In a rare move, the majority and the opposition in the Bulgarian Parliament united Wednesday around the opinion that the election of the first US African-American President, Democrat Barack Obama is a symbol of change and proof that America remains a truly democratic country.
"Barack Obama is the epitome of the American dream. It is wonderful when dreams come true," said the Chair of the Coalition for Bulgaria, Angel Naydenov.
Yunal Lyutvy, representative of the ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms defined Obama's victory as positive, expected and a catharsis for the American society.
The Deputy Chair of the National Movement for Stability and Progress, Ognyan Gerdzhikov admitted being a McCain sympathizer, but added that Obama was an extremely charismatic leader. Gerdzhikov also said it was likely that the situation in Afghanistan could change soon with reduction or complete withdrawal of the armed forces from the country.
Assen Agov, Member of the Parliament from the Democrats for Strong Bulgaria expressed his expectation that the new US President would find solutions to the global financial crisis and the Iraq and Afghanistan issues.
"I hope that the change Obama symbolizes would become a change in the status quo all over the world," said Nikolay Svinarov from the Bulgarian New Democracy.
