Unprecedented Investments' Increase Planned for Bulgaria 2009 State Budget

A unprecedented investments' increase is planned for the 2009 State budget, according to Milen Velchev, Deputy Chair of the ruling National Movement for Stability and Progress (NMSP) party.
Velchev spoke on Tuesday, after the conclusion of the regular meeting of the NMSP's Parliamentary Group and explained that the slated amount was by BGN 1,3 B higher than the one for the current year.
Velchev defined the 2009 budget as the "budget of infrastructure, families and young people" due to the approval of his party's ideas about tax relief for young families applying for mortgage loans, investment of more resources in tourist advertising and faster restitution of the Value Added Tax.
According to Velchev, the measures to deal with the global financial crisis include continuing the policy of a high level of surplus, amounting to 3% from the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). He also sated that NMSP would continue to push for delaying the forecasted price increase of natural gas from January to April of 2009.
Other measures to be initiated by the party are to extend paid maternity leave to one year, to increase the guaranteed minimum income from BGN 45 to BGN 55, to slate 4,1% from the GDP in 2009 for education and the educational reform.
